Schematic overview
EC motor | CO and LPG control | Wi-Fi gateway | parking garages 800 m²
Solution description
Ventilation control for 800 m² parking garages. EC fan speed is controlled based on the CO and LPG concentration. The sensor ranges and all other settings can be adjusted via Modbus RTU communication. An internet Wi-Fi gateway is required to download the application specific firmware for this solution.

Underground car parks and garages
Typically, this solution is applied to control EC fans in (underground) car parks and garages. The sensor ranges and all other settings can be adjusted via Modbus RTU communication. An internet gateway is required to download the application specific firmware for this solution.
Installation
The EC fan speed in the car park is controlled based on the measurements of CO or LPG. In case CO levels need to be monitored, the SPRKM-R sensor needs to be installed at a height of at least 150 cm above the floor. In case LPG levels need to be monitored, the SPRKM-R sensor needs to be installed at a height of 10 to 30 cm above the floor. The minimum fan speed can be set via the Modbus RTU holding registers, to ensure a constant flow of fresh air through. The maximum fan speed (in case of high levels of CO and LPG) can also be set via the Modbus RTU holding registers. Additionally, alarm levels can be set via Modbus RTU holding registers to trigger extra audible alarms.
Carbon monoxide
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas that mixes with normal air. Motor vehicles are an important source of CO. The CO content in the exhaust gases of cars and trucks varies from 0.1 to 8% and in rare cases can even reach 30%. In special circumstances, traffic can lead to serious intoxica
tions, for example in underground car parks from which everyone leaves at the same time after the end of a mass demonstration. Inhaled CO is absorbed into the blood through the lungs, just like oxygen. This disrupts the transport of oxygen to the cells and causes a lack of oxygen.
Liquid Petrol Gas
LPG is a mixture of propane (C3H8) and butane (C4H10). When the pressure decreases, LPG moves into the gas phase. This occurs during accidental gas release. A very important parameter is LPG density, with the gas being almost twice as heavy as air. LPG vapour can be transported along the car park floor over relatively long distances, reaching a source of ignition where the gas can ignite, flash back, or lead to serious vapour/air explosion hazards in confined spaces.
Therefore, once detected, CO and LPG should immediately be evacuated from car parks and garages.
High quality
The enclosure of the SPRKM-R sensor and the MDACM1 Modbus converter is made of high-quality r-ABS VO (UL94) plastic. This material is heat resistant, fire-retardant, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. Each sensor is calibrated and tested in our factory. We use sensor elements and components of high quality. This ensures the long-term stability and accuracy of this HVAC transmitter. To ensure optimal performance, it should be protected from direct sunlight. The enclosure is designed for harsh environments or outdoor applications. It offers an IP65 protection against ingress of dirt and water.
