Residential AC fan speed controller 230 VAC | 1,5 A | From High to Low
Product description
This variable speed controller is commonly employed for regulation of various types of fans, including ceiling fans, bathroom exhaust fans and extraction fans up to 1,5 A. It allows for the adjustment of the motor speed, ranging from high to low speed. You can set the minimum speed using an internal trimmer.
This is an enhanced version of the MTX series and is primarily characterized by its exceptionally precise motor control algorithm (microprocessor controlled), ensuring silent motor operation even at low speeds. By employing TRIAC technology, this variable speed controller regulates the speed of AC fans by modulating the motor voltage through phase angle control.
It is suitable for AC fans featuring a voltage-controllable single-phase motor.
Another notable aspect is the modernised enclosure.

Additional specifications and description
Easy fan speed control
This residential fan speed controller regulates motor speed from high to low speed. It is controlled manually and when the rotary knob is in OFF position, the motor is not active. Turning the knob clockwise starts the motor at high speed. When the knob is turned further clockwise, the motor slows down to the minimum speed. The minimum motor speed is adjustable via an internal trimmer within the range 20 – 70 % of the supply voltage (Us). The OFF position can be deactivated by connecting the 230 VAC supply voltage to the unregulated output, i.e. to terminals L1 and N. In this case, the motor will run when the power supply is present. If you want to keep the OFF position enabled, connect the supply voltage via terminals L and N, as standard.
Extra quiet motor operation
In residential environments it is important that the motor does not produce too much noise. The new and improved SDX series of speed controllers is very similar to the old MTX controllers, but there are some important differences, the most important being the extremely accurate motor control. The series features a microcontroller, thanks to which the motor voltage can be controlled quite precisely. This results in the motor running noiselessly, even at low speed. This variable speed controller regulates the speed of AC fans by reducing the motor voltage via phase angle control (TRIAC technology is used). That is why this controller is only suitable for voltage controllable motors. If you are not sure whether your motor is voltage controllable, it is best to contact the motor manufacturer.
Modern enclosure with contemporary design
Another innovation is the design. The enclosure has a contemporary, modern design that is a perfect match with both classic and more futuristic interior styles. What is more, this fan speed controller can be wall-mounted or built-in, which means it is suitable for all kinds of walls – from wooden panels through solid brick to gypsum board. Should you use a European wall box, the mounting holes of the SDX series fit perfectly. The enclosure is made of high-quality ASA plastic - a material that is UV resistant and protects against impacts. The protection class is IP44 for inset mounting and IP54 for surface mounting. It protects the electronics against ingress of dust, dirt and water from any angle in indoor applications. The enclosure is very easy to clean with a damp cloth.
Unregulated output to control external devices
If the supply voltage is connected to L and N, the unregulated output is active when the motor is enabled. The unregulated output can be used to control external devices. It is intended for use in applications where good regulation or low ripple is not required, such as an LED lamp (as run indicator), external relays, solenoids, dampers and anything that is ideal for non-critical loads. When the fan stops, the damper is closed. When the fan is active, the damper is open. Because this output is either ON (230 Volt) or OFF (0 Volt), it is called ‘unregulated output’.
