Fan speed controller | day-night function | 5 A
Product description
Two-speed controller for single-phase motors. The maximum (total) motor current is 5 A.
The controller has two independent 5-speed switches for selecting two optimal fan speeds. Switching between both selected speeds is possible via a digital input. An unregultaed output can be used to indicate normal motor operation.
The fan speed is controlled by reducing the motor voltage through an autotransformer. This technology results in a perfectly sinusoidal output voltage and guarantees quiet motor operation.
The housing can be surface mounted and is IP54 rated against dirt, dust and moisture ingress.

Additional specifications and description
On the series
Sentera’s SC2-1 series is a simplified fan speed control solution featuring two optimal fan speed setting via the built-in knobs on its enclosure. This features can be used to select different day and night temperatures. In this way, apart from more comfortable ventilation, considerable energy savings can be realized.
The technology
The technology used is based on autotransformers. An autotransformer is a type of electrical transformer that has a single winding with one or more taps along its length. It is used to step up or step down the voltage in an electrical circuit.
Here is how an autotransformer works:
1. Single Winding: The autotransformer has a single coil of wire wound on a laminated iron core. One end of the winding is the input terminal, and the other end is the output terminal.
2. Taps: Along the length of the winding, there are several taps, which are connection points along the coil. These taps allow for different voltage ratios to be selected based on the specific application.
3. Voltage Transformation: When an input voltage is applied across the winding, the voltage at the output terminal will depend on which tap is used. By selecting different taps, the voltage can be stepped up or down relative to the input voltage.
4. Advantages: Autotransformers are more efficient and cost-effective than regular transformers for voltage transformation because they use fewer windings and less copper. This makes them smaller, lighter, and less expensive for the same voltage transformation ratio.
5. Voltage Regulation: Autotransformers are also used for voltage regulation. By adjusting the tap position, the output voltage can be regulated to compensate for voltage fluctuations in the power supply.
6. Applications: Autotransformers find applications in various industries, such as power transmission and distribution, motor starting, voltage regulation.
Extra features
• This controller features selection of two optimal motor speeds, typically for day and night control or different operating conditions. These speeds can be switched using an external change-over contact, such as an external thermostat or timer/clock. This enables energy savings and increased comfort by adjusting the motor speed based on specific requirements.
• Light indication: The enclosure of the controller features an indicator light that illuminates when the transformer controller is in operation. This provides a visual indication of its status and helps observe its functionality.
• Non regulated output: All Sentera transformer controllers come with an unregulated output that provides a constant 230 VAC when the motor is in operation. An unregulated output refers to a power supply or voltage source that does not have any built-in regulation to maintain a stable output voltage despite fluctuations in input voltage or load conditions. In contrast, a regulated output provides a constant voltage regardless of variations in the input or load.
Enclosure specifics
Enclosures play an important role in protecting the interior components or contents from various external factors such as debris, dust, water and mechanical impact. Their quality does make a difference, so we produce them ourselves. The enclosure of the SC2-1 series is made from a specific material called r-ABS (reinforced Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) with a VO flame-retardant rating according to the UL94 standard. This material is fire-resistant and the enclosure is designed for surface installation. The r-ABS material is reinforced to provide enhanced mechanical properties, ensuring increased fire safety and reduced flammability. The protection class is IP54.
