Transformer-based fan speed controller
Transformers are primarily used in electrical systems to alter voltage levels, stepping up or down the voltage as necessary. Transformer-based control units have benefits such as noise reduction and ease of control in particular applications. Speed control without electromagnetic excitation in the motors is another significant benefit of transformer-based control units. A transformer fan speed controller provides silent motor operation, easy step-by-step control, a long service life, and a reasonable price.
Use
5-step fan speed controllers are widely used in industrial kitchens, warehouses or commercial environments. They are often used as a simple control for regulating extractor hoods or exhaust fans. The fan speed can be increased from standstill to maximum speed in 5 steps. When connected, this controller can be used immediately. No configuration or programming is required. AC fan speed control is extra easy!
The control principle
This is a three-phase motor fan speed controller. The built-in rotary switch allows you to choose between the 5 speeds. The motor voltage and fan speed are reduced in 5 steps using autotransformer technology. Therefore, this speed controller is only appropriate for AC voltage-controllable motors. It is best to contact the motor manufacturer if you are unsure whether your motor can be controlled by voltage. Technology using autotransformers is very dependable and durable. Autotransformer technology is very reliable and robust. It generates a motor voltage with perfect sinusoidal shape. This results in exceptionally quiet motor operation and extended service life. A special impregnated coating reduces the electrical noise from the autotransformers.
Unregulated output
The unregulated output of the motor controller is a separate output that becomes active when the motor is enabled. It operates in a binary manner, meaning it is either ON (230 Volts) or OFF (0 Volts). This unregulated output typically has a maximum current rating of 2 A.
This unregulated output can be utilized for various purposes, such as:
- Run indicator: The output can be connected to an external run indicator, such as a light, to visually indicate when the motor is active.
- Damper control: The output can be used to control a damper. For example, when the motor is running, the damper blade opens to allow airflow, and when the motor stops, the damper closes to restrict airflow.
- External relay: The output can be connected to an external relay, allowing the motor controller to switch or control other electrical devices or circuits.
Rotary switch with built-in mechanical time delay
It is important to operate the rotary switch not too quickly. The switch has a built-in mechanical time delay. This is important to prevent internal sparking during shifting. It has a good effect on the service life of the device. When the rotary switch is rotated from position faster than the built-in mechanical time delay, the device will remain internally at position 0 (OFF position).
Surface mount housing
The interior components of a housing are protected from various external factors like debris, dust, water, and mechanical impact. The integrity and safety of the items enclosed depend on the quality of the enclosures. The sheet steel enclosures of the STR-4 series are designed to withstand external mechanical impacts. Accidental bumps, collisions, and other physical pressures will not damage their structure or the contents inside. The housings are paint coated, which serves as an extra layer of protection against corrosion and other environmental factors. The paint finish helps to enhance the durability and longevity of the housing. The EN 62208 certification ensures that they comply with the standards set for empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies. The ingress protection rating of IP54 guarantees a high level of protection against dust and water ingress; they are effectively sealed against dust particles and can withstand water splashes from any direction, making them suitable for moderately harsh environments.
