Additional specifications and description
The STR-4 series
These are for step-based transformer fan speed controllers designed to regulate manually the speeds of three phase, 400 V AC fans by reducing the motor voltage. They are suitable for voltage controllable motors and can be used in ventilation systems for industrial, commercial or public buildings, in which three-phase 400 V power supply is present.
Amongst the advantages of this type of control devices is that they provide speed control without electromagnetic excitation in the motors, making them suitable for noise-sensitive environments. What is more, the autotransformers integrated in the STR-4 series have a special coating that further reduces noise emissions.
These transformer controllers operate, but the total current must never exceed the rated load of the transformer unit, which is 11 A. This feature is useful when you need to control the speeds of several fans simultaneously. However, overloading the controller must be avoided at all times.
To regulate the fan speed, the controller is equipped with a rotary switch with a built-in mechanical time delay. The switch must be rotated at an appropriate pace to prevent internal sparking. If the switch is rotated too quickly, the device will remain internally at the "OFF" position (position 0).
Control in steps
The STR-4 controllers offer simplified control in five preset steps. The rotary switch on the controllers typically has multiple positions or steps that correspond to different fan speeds. By turning the switch to a specific position, from the lowest to the highest step, you can set the desired speed for the fan. The output voltages for this product version are: 130, 180, 230, 300 and 400 VAC. This step-based control mechanism provides convenient and straightforward adjustment options.
The proven transformer-based technology offers extended service life. The built-in mechanical time delay in the rotary switch plays a crucial role in prolonging the lifespan of the device. By preventing internal sparking during shifting, it helps reduce wear and tear on the internal components, ensuring reliable operation over an extended period.
Extra monophasic unregulated output
As standard, the STR-4 series features an extra unregulated output (230 VAC, 1 phase). Unregulated output refers to a type of electrical output that is not subject to voltage regulation. This output becomes active when the motor is enabled. It can be used for various purposes, such as controlling external operation indicators, opening or closing dampers, switching external relays and more. The maximum current for this output is 2 A.
Enclosure made of sheet steel
The controller features a surface mountable metal enclosure. It offers reliable protection for the internal components against external mechanical impacts. It can withstand accidental bumps or hits without compromising the structure or functionality of the controller. The paint coating both enhances the looks and provides an additional layer of protection against corrosion and environmental factors, improving its durability and longevity. The enclosure is certified to comply with the standards set for empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies (EN 62208). It also has an ingress protection rating of IP54, which guarantees a high level of protection against dust and water ingress, making it suitable for moderately harsh environments.
