Fan speed controller | Modbus RTU controlled | 7,5 A
Product description
This transformer fan speed controller controls fan speed manually or on demand. It controlls single-phase motors. The supply voltage is 230 V AC.
The RTVS1 is Modbus controlled, allowing the use of a Sentera HVAC sensor, potentiometer (SPV series) or BMS system with Modbus RTU communication to adjust the desired fan speed. The fan speed can be adjusted manually or depending on temperature, relative humidity, CO2 content and air quality (TVOC).
Fan speed is controlled by varying the motor voltage in steps. The autotransformer technology produces a perfectly sinusoidal motor voltage. This ensures quiet operation of the motor. A special impregnation coating reduces electrical noise from the autotransformer.
The plastic housing can be surface mounted (protection class IP54).

Additional specifications and description
Transformer-based fan speed controllers offer several advantages that make them a preferred choice for speed control solutions in certain applications. They are designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions and are suitable for industrial settings where equipment is exposed to dust, moisture, and mechanical stress. Transformer-based controllers can effectively adjust fan speed by modifying the voltage supplied to the motor. This approach is efficient in terms of energy consumption since it directly affects the motor's input power. One of the significant advantages of transformer-based control is the silent motor operation it provides. Unlike some other methods that rely on varying the motor's magnetic field, transformer-based control adjusts speed without generating additional noise. This characteristic is especially beneficial in noise-sensitive environments. What is more, due to their robust design, transformer-based controllers tend to have a longer service life and require minimal maintenance.
Modbus controlled
A transformer-based fan speed controller with Modbus RTU communication combines the benefits of both transformer-based speed control and the capabilities of Modbus RTU protocol. This type of controller offers efficient fan speed regulation through voltage adjustment in steps while allowing for remote control, monitoring, and integration into industrial automation systems through the Modbus protocol. The controller utilizes a transformer to adjust the voltage supplied to the motor, thereby controlling the fan speed. By changing the voltage levels, the controller achieves discrete speed adjustments in steps. The Modbus RTU interface enables communication between the controller and other devices in the automation system, such as sensors or a digital potentiometer.
By combining transformer-based fan speed control with Modbus RTU communication, the RTVS1 controller offers the advantages of efficient speed regulation and the ability to interface with external systems for enhanced control and monitoring. It is well-suited for integration into larger automation networks are essential.
Manual and auto control modes
In manual mode, the fan speed can be selected using a BMS system or a Modbus RTU master device via Modbus Holding Register 12.
In automatic mode, the controller can interface with a Sentera HVAC sensor or the SPV potentiometers. The type of connected device is specified through Modbus register 18. Fan speed can be controlled based on various measured parameters like temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, air quality, CO, NO2. In automatic mode, fan speed can increase or decrease as the control signal increases. These operating modes are called Auto forward and Auto reverse modes. They can be selected via Holding register 11. In Auto forward mode, fan speed will increase when the measured value increases. In Auto reverse mode, fan speed will be reduced when the measured value increases. This can be used for heating and cooling applications, i.e. fan speed based on measured temperature values.
Remote controlled
If a digital potentiometer (Sentera’s SPV series) is connected, the fan speed can be controlled remotely while the transformer remains in the technical room.
Unregulated output and thermal protection
The controller offers additional features such as an unregulated output (configurable through Modbus) and thermal motor contact monitoring (TK monitoring) to ensure safe and reliable operation. The unregulated output is either 0 V or 230 V. The TK contacts must be connected only of your motor has thermal protection.
Auto restart after power failure
The RTVS1 has an auto-restart feature to resume operation after a power failure.
LED indication
The RTVS1 features indication lights on the enclosure. These indicate the status of the device – powered, active Modbus communication, alarms, unregulated output status and currently active step.
Solid enclosure
The enclosure is made of high-quality r-ABS plastic and in order to guarantee its impeccable quality, it is manufactured in our own factory. The material is exceptionally heat resistant, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. The enclosure can be surface mounted and offers an IP54 protection against ingress of dirt, dust and moisture.
