Product description

This is a 5-step fan speed controller for 3-phase 400 VAC motors with TK monitoring. The motor current of 6 A. The speed is adjusted manually via a rotary knob that has an OFF position. The motor can be switched on or off remotely using the extra inputs.

For motor safety, STRA4 incorporates a thermal monitoring function. In the event of motor overheating, the TK monitoring function disables the motor to prevent damage.
The motor restarts automatically without any manual intervention in case of power failure.

STRA4 includes an alarm output and an unregulated output. The alarm output triggers external alert devices. The unregulated output can control external equipment to confirm normal operation or activate connected devices.

Fan speed is controlled by reducing the motor voltage using transformer-based technology. This ensures that the output voltage has a perfect sine shape, guaranteeing noiseless motor operation.

The enclosure is surface mountable with IP54 ingress protection rating against particles and moisture.

Additional specifications and description

5-position rotary switch for manual control
The controller has a rotary switch with five positions, each corresponding to a different fan speed. One of the positions is the OFF position, which directly switches off the motor.

STRA4 in a restaurant kitchenAutotransformer technology
The speed controller uses autotransformer technology to reduce the fan speed and motor voltage in five steps. It is developed to control three phase 400 VAC motors by varying the output voltage. The available output voltages are: 130, 180, 230, 300, and 400 VAC. Autotransformer technology, utilized in the fan speed controller, is a method of controlling the speed of AC motors by adjusting the voltage supplied to the motor.
The autotransformer has a single winding, which is part of the motor circuit. This winding is typically wound around a magnetic core. Along the winding, there are multiple taps, each corresponding to a different voltage level. These taps are connected to the rotary switch of the fan speed controller. When the fan speed controller is set to a specific speed position, it selects a corresponding tap on the autotransformer winding. By connecting the motor circuit to that tap, the voltage supplied to the motor is reduced.

The autotransformer technology used in this fan speed controller series provides stepwise voltage control. Each position on the rotary switch corresponds to a specific voltage tap, resulting in different speed settings for the motor. The number of available speed steps depends on the design of the autotransformer.
Autotransformers are designed to generate a motor voltage with a perfect sinusoidal waveform. This ensures smooth and efficient motor operation, reducing electrical noise and vibration.

Extra inputs for remote control
The STRA4 series offers additional inputs that allow remote control of the motor. These inputs can be used to enable or disable the motor remotely. For example, a smoke alarm can be connected to disable the motor in the event of a smoke alarm occurrence. Another example is using a door contact to control an air curtain. When the door opens, the contact triggers the air curtain via the input of the controller.

Thermal monitoring with TK contacts
This controller provides the option to monitor thermal motor contacts (TK contacts). TK contacts monitor the motor winding temperature, and if overheating occurs, the motor is disabled to prevent damage. The TK activation also triggers the alarm output, which can be connected to an external alarm module.

Auto reset after power failure

The controller automatically resets itself after a power failure. When power is restored, the motor restarts automatically, eliminating the need to manually reset the rotary switch to the desired speed position.

Outputs for controlling external devices
The controller has an additional unregulated output (230 VAC) that is active when the motor is enabled. This output can be used to control external devices, such as indicator lamps, opening/closing grids of air ducts, or activating lighting. The output is always either ON (230 Volt) or OFF (0 Volt), and its maximum current is 2 A.

Enclosure for indoor wall mounting
The controller is designed for indoor use and can be mounted on a wall or panel. The enclosure is made of high-quality steel, offering protection against impacts. It has an IP54 rating, providing protection against dust and water ingress.
