Distribution box | wall mounting
Product description
This Modbus RTU distribution box has six RJ45 sockets. These six RJ45 sockets are internally connected (parallel connection).
It distributes Modbus RTU communication and 24 VDC power supply between the connected devices and is used to interconnect Sentera devices. Via the Sentera PoM connection, both Modbus RTU communication and 24 VDC power supply are distributed via a single UTP cable with an RJ45 connector.
The plastic enclosure offers an IP65 protection against the ingress dust and water. It can be wall-mounted.

Additional specifications and description
What it does
This Power over Modbus junction or distribution box is used to distribute Modbus RTU communication data and 24 VDC between Sentera devices. It combines power distribution and Modbus communication in a single enclosure, thus allowing for the simplification of cabling and installation in environments where both power and Modbus communication are required.

Six RJ45 sockets
The junction box includes 6 sockets for plugging in connectors for distributing electrical power to connected devices, such as Sentera’s sensors, actuators or controllers designed for low-voltage DC power commonly used in industrial settings.
It also allows the connected Modbus devices within the network to communicate with a Modbus master or other devices.
Its 6 cable glands securely route and protect the cables. This is especially important in industrial environments where cables are exposed to mechanical stress and harsh conditions.
This device eliminates the need to supply every single device separately using a separate power 24 VDC supply module which not only contributes to cost effectiveness, but also gives connection protection and a tidy look to your system.
Enclosure suitable for harsh environments
The enclosure of the MDB-M-6 is constructed from r-ABS VO (UL94) plastic. This material is known for its flame-retardant properties. It can resists catching fire and self-extinguishes if exposed to a flame source. It is also durable and provides good protection against impacts, making it suitable for protecting electronic or electrical components.
The enclosure is rated with an IP65 protection level. This means it offers a high degree of protection against the ingress of dust and water. In industrial and outdoor environments, an IP65 rating ensures that the contents inside the enclosure are shielded from harmful environmental factors.
The enclosure is designed for wall mounting, which makes it suitable for a variety of applications where you need to securely attach it to a wall or vertical surface. This could be in industrial settings, building infrastructure or any situation where you want to protect and house electronics or equipment.
What is more, in order to guarantee the long service life and excellent characteristics of the enclosures, Sentera produces the enclosures in-house, thus monitoring and constantly testing their characteristics.
Crimping the UTP cable
In order to retain the high IP rating of the enclosure and to protect the connections from any impacts or adverse ambient conditions such as dust or high humidity, we advise on inserting the cables through cable glands of the box and only then crimping them, rather than using the factory crimped cables with over-moulded RJ45 connectors (which will also work, but require removing the cable glands first and this would make the process more complicated).
Having plugged in the crimped cables into the RJ45 sockets, tighten the glands to prevent the ingress of any particles or water. Once powered, as standard, the green LED on the left of each of the six sockets will light up in green to indicate that voltage has been detected.
If you are wondering how to crimp your cable, you can watch our video tutorial or simply consult the documentation of your products.
