Product description

The Sentera ITRS9100-DT fan speed controller, part of the ITRS9 series, efficiently regulates single-phase voltage controllable motors (110—240 VAC / 50—60 Hz) by adjusting the supplied voltage. The adjustable stepless output voltage enables precise fan speed control for optimal performance Offering automatic power supply detection, thermal contacts (TK) for motor protection, and open (NO) and closed (NC) inputs for remote start/stop, the controller ensures versatile and safe operation.

Internally adjustable via trimmers, the ITRS9 controllers set minimum and maximum speeds. The series incorporates an unregulated output for devices like valves, lamps, or dampers, regulated by a potentiometer within the range of minimum output voltage to the supply voltage.

Equipped with kick-start and soft start modes, selectable via a jumper, the controller provides flexibility in motor acceleration. The ITRS9100-DT model, with a maximum motor current of 10A, features an illuminated on/off switch, LED indications for quick diagnostics, and an alarm output for timely issue alerts.

In summary, the ITRS9100-DT offers precise speed control, safety features, and flexibility, making it an ideal choice for HVAC systems.

Additional specifications and description

Continuous variable speed control
This fan speed controller can reduce the motor voltage of single phase AC motors. By reducing the motor voltage, it can regulate the speed of these AC motors. The motor voltage is reduced through phase angle control (TRIAC technology). This fan speed controller is therefore only suitable for voltage controllable motors. If you are not sure if your motor is voltage controllable, it is best to contact the motor manufacturer. This speed controller is completely silent. The fan speed can be selected by rotating the knob on the front panel.  Some motor types might have a humming motor noise occur at low speed.

Adjustable minimum and maximum motor speed
The minimum and maximum selectable motor speed can be adjusted via the two internal trimmers. This makes it possible to optimize the speed range that can be selected via the rotary knob on the front panel. Any overcapacity of the fan can be compensated by optimizing the speed range. By setting the minimum speed sufficiently high, motor overheating at prolonged low speed operating can be prevented. Consult the motor manufacturer to find out what speed range is allowed for your motor.

Thermal motor protection
When an AC motor fails, it is often due to overheating. In order to timely detect motor overheating, some motors are equipped with TK or thermal contacts. These thermal contacts measure the temperature in the motor windings. ITR9S fan speed controllers can monitor the thermal motor contacts. In case of motor overheating, the TK monitoring function will disable the motor. This prevents permanent motor damage. In this case, the alarm output will be activated. If an external buzzer or an external indicator light has been connected to the alarm output to signal motor problems, it will receive this alarm signal. If the motor is not equipped with TK contacts, bridge both TK terminals of the ITRS9 controller to simulate a continuously normal motor temperature.

How to start up the AC fan?
The two inputs can be used to remotely start or stop the motor. It is for example possible to connect a remote switch or an external clock to one of both inputs to start the motor. There are two different motor startup modes: acceleration with kick start or soft start. The modes can be selected via an internal jumper. Kick start will start the motor at maximum speed. After about 8 – 10 seconds, the motor will decelerate towards the requested fan speed. Soft start will smoothly accelerate the motor from standstill towards the requested fan speed. This acceleration time will also be about 8 – 10 seconds.

ON/OFF switch
With the illuminated ON/OFF switch on the side, the device can be switched on or off. The switch is illuminated in ON position. Please refer to the mounting instructions and datasheet for more details.

Unregulated output
When the motor is enabled, the unregulated output is active. Tt is called ‘unregulated output because this output is either ON (230 Volt) or OFF (0 Volt). The maximum current of this output is 2 A. It is typically used to control an external run-indicator, a damper, an external relay, etc.
E.g. when the fan stops, the damper is closed. When the fan is active, the damper is open.

Waterproof enclosure for indoor applications
This fan speed controller can be installed indoors, on a wall or on a panel. Make sure that the fan speed controller can cool sufficiently. Preferably install it in a cool place, best away from direct sunlight. The enclosure is made of high-quality r-ABS VO (UL94) plastic. This material is flame extinguishing, very tough and offers good protection against impacts. It offers an IP54 protection against the ingress of dust and water.
