5-step fan speed controller | TK monitoring | 20 A
Product description
5-step transformer fan speed controller with thermal contacts or TK for single-phase motors. The maximum motor current (combined) is 20 A.
The fan speed can be adjusted using the rotary switch on the front cover. In the event of overheating, the TK monitoring function disables the motor.
The fan speed is controlled in five steps by lowering the motor voltage. The perfect sinusoidal shape of the output voltage ensures quiet motor operation.
The enclosure is surface mountable and provides IP54 protection against dirt, dust, and moisture ingress.

Additional specifications and description
How to control AC fan speed?
You can select one of the 5 speeds via the built-in switch. Autotransformer technology is used to reduce the motor voltage and the fan speed in 5 steps. This technology is very reliable and robust. It generates a motor voltage with perfect sinusoidal shape. This results in exceptionally quiet motor operation and extended service life. A special impregnated coating reduces the electrical noise from the autotransformers.
Why transformer-based control for your fan?
Transformer controllers offer several advantages as a speed control solution. They are robust, easy-to-use, efficient, and affordable. One notable benefit is the absence of electromagnetic excitation in motors, making them suitable for noise-sensitive environments. With a transformer fan speed controller, you can enjoy silent motor operation, convenient step-based control, and a long-lasting controller at a reasonable cost.
Control in 5 steps
5-step fan speed controllers such as the STRS1 find extensive application in industrial kitchens, warehouses, and other industrial environments. They serve as straightforward controls for regulating extractor hoods or exhaust fans. These controllers allow for adjusting the fan speed in five steps, ranging from standstill to maximum speed. They are devices, requiring no configuration or programming. This makes AC fan speed control hassle-free and convenient.
Also, you can easily change the 5 output voltages of your controller by changing the internal wiring. The factory connected output voltages are 100, 120, 140, 170, and 230 VAC, however, the product version features 80 VAC, which can be connected by disconnecting any of the other 5 steps. The wires are different colours, so you can hardly make a mistake.
Special features
The fan speed controller features an additional unregulated output (230 VAC) that becomes active when the motor is enabled. This output is either ON (230 Volt) or OFF (0 Volt) and is therefore referred to as the "unregulated output." It has a maximum current rating of 2 A. This output is commonly utilized to control various external components, such as a run indicator, damper, relay, and more. For instance, when the fan is not running, the damper is closed, and when the fan is active, the damper opens.
The STRS1 controller can monitor thermal motor contacts (TK or thermal contacts measure temperature in the motor windings). Thermal motor protection is a crucial feature in fan speed controllers, especially in industrial environments where motors can be subject to heavy use and potential overheating. This protection mechanism helps prevent motor damage and ensures safe and reliable operation.
Thermal motor protection typically works by monitoring the temperature of the motor during operation. If the temperature exceeds a safe threshold, the protection system activates and takes appropriate measures to prevent further temperature rise. These measures may include reducing the fan speed, triggering an alarm, or even shutting off the motor entirely.
Surface mount enclosure
Enclosures play an important role in protecting the interior components or contents from various external factors such as debris, dust, water, and mechanical impact. The quality of enclosures is indeed essential to ensure the integrity and safety of the enclosed items.
The STRS1 features sheet steel enclosures designed to be resistant to external mechanical impacts. They can withstand accidental bumps, collisions, or other physical forces without compromising their structure or the items inside. This feature is particularly important in environments where there is a higher risk of such impacts, ensuring the protection of the enclosed components. The enclosures have a paint finish, which not only provides an aesthetic appeal but also serves as an extra layer of protection against corrosion and other environmental factors. The paint finish helps to enhance the durability and longevity of the enclosure. The EN 62208 certification ensures that the enclosures comply with the standards set for empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies. The ingress protection rating of IP54 guarantees that the enclosures are designed to provide a high level of protection against dust and water ingress, they are effectively sealed against dust particles and can withstand water splashes from any direction, making them suitable for moderately harsh environments.
