400 V transformer fan speed controller | TK monitoring | 1,5 A
Product description
Transformer fan speed controller for 400 V motors with thermal contact. The (combined) maximum motor current is 1,5 A.
Fan speed can be set with the built-in rotary switch on the front cover. The TK monitoring function stops the motor in case of overheating.
The fan speed can be adjusted in 5 steps by reducing the motor voltage. The output voltage is fully sinusoidal and guarantees quiet motor operation.
The enclosure can be surface-mounted and has an IP54 degree of protection against dirt, dust, and moisture ingress.
The supply voltage is 400 V.

Transformer-based technology for fan speed control
The benefits of the autotransformer technology used for the production of STRS4-15L40 in fan motor applications include:
- Voltage reduction: Autotransformers are commonly used to reduce the voltage supplied to motors. By tapping into different points along the winding, the autotransformer can provide multiple voltage levels, allowing for speed control of the motor. This voltage reduction technique is more energy-efficient compared to other methods, as it avoids the need for dissipating excess energy as heat.
- Energy efficiency: Autotransformers offer high energy efficiency due to their inherent design. Since they operate on the principle of magnetic coupling between windings, there are fewer losses associated with electrical resistance. As a result, autotransformers can provide better power transfer efficiency compared to other voltage control methods.
- Smooth operation: The autotransformer technology used in your controller generates a motor voltage with a perfect sinusoidal shape. This smooth voltage waveform contributes to smooth motor operation, reducing vibrations and noise. It also helps minimize stress on the motor windings and other components, thereby extending the service life of the motor.
- Quiet operation: By producing a perfect sinusoidal voltage waveform, autotransformers contribute to exceptionally quiet motor operation. The absence of voltage harmonics and distortions reduces electrical noise, leading to a quieter environment in applications where noise reduction is essential, such as HVAC systems, fans, and other equipment that require low noise levels.
- Robustness and reliability: Autotransformers are known for their robustness and reliability in various power distribution and control applications. Their simple construction and fewer components make them less prone to failure compared to more complex voltage control methods. This reliability translates into reduced downtime and maintenance costs for the motor control system.
- Impregnated coating: The autotransformers in the controller are coated with a special material. This coating serves multiple purposes, including reducing electrical noise from the autotransformers and providing additional insulation and protection against environmental factors such as moisture and dust. The impregnated coating enhances the overall performance and longevity of the autotransformers in the controller.
Extra feature
Although the functionality of the STRS4 series is the same as that of the standard STR-4 series, the former is more sophisticated thanks to featuring thermal motor contacts monitoring (TK or thermal contacts measure temperature in the motor windings). In case of motor overheating, the TK monitoring function will disable the motor to prevent motor damage. If the motor is not equipped with TK contacts, the TK terminals of the controller must be bridged to simulate normal motor temperature. By incorporating the TK monitoring function and providing the option to bridge the TK terminals, the fan speed controller ensures motor safety by preventing overheating and potential damage, regardless of the motor's specific configuration.
Non-regulated output
The extra, unregulated output (1x 230 VAC) is active when the motor is enabled. It can be used to control an external operation indicator, a damper actuator, etc. When the fan is deactivated, the dampers is closed. When the fan is active, the damper is open.
Surface mounted metal enclosure
The STRS4-15L40 features a sheet steel enclosure resistant to external mechanical impacts. They can withstand accidental hits or other physical forces without compromising its structure or the items inside. This is particularly important in environments where there is a higher risk of such impacts, ensuring the protection of the enclosed components. The enclosure has a paint finish, which serves as an extra layer of protection against corrosion and other environmental factors. The ingress protection rating of IP54 guarantees that the enclosures are designed to provide a high level of protection against dust and water ingress, they are effectively sealed against dust particles and can withstand water splashes from any direction, making them suitable for moderately harsh environments.
