Transformer fan speed controller with thermal connections for a 400 V motor. The maximum motor current (combined) is 1.2 A.

The fan speed may be adjusted using the rotary switch on the front panel. In the event of overheating, the TK monitoring feature shuts the motor.

The fan speed is controlled in five stages by lowering the motor voltage. The exact sinusoidal form of the output voltage ensures silent motor running.

The enclosure is surface mountable and provides IP54 protection against dirt, dust, and moisture entry.

The power supply voltage is 400 volts.

5-step speed controller for AC fans
This series is designed for three-phase 400 V motors and offers five speeds using a built-in switch. The technology used is autotransformer-based, which allows for the reduction of motor voltage in five steps. Autotransformers are known for their reliability and robustness in power distribution and control applications.
One of the advantages of using autotransformer technology is that it produces a motor voltage with a perfect sinusoidal shape. This results in smoother motor operation and reduces electrical noise, leading to exceptionally quiet motor operation. The extended service life of the motor can also be attributed to the use of autotransformer technology.
Additionally, the autotransformers in this controller are coated with a special impregnation material, which helps to the electrical noise generated by the autotransformers, further enhancing the quiet operation of the motor.

Thermal motor protection
The STRS4-12L40 has an additional feature of monitoring thermal motor contacts (TK) or thermal contacts that measure the temperature in the motor windings. This monitoring function is designed to prevent motor damage in case of overheating.
If the motor being controlled is equipped with TK contacts, the controller can directly monitor the temperature of the motor windings through these contacts. If the temperature exceeds a certain threshold indicating overheating, the TK monitoring function will be triggered. In such a case, the controller will automatically disable the motor to prevent further damage. This protective mechanism ensures the safety and longevity of the motor by avoiding operation under excessive temperatures.
However, if the motor does not have TK contacts, the controller provides an alternative method to simulate normal motor temperature. The TK terminals of the controller need to be bridged, essentially creating a connection that mimics the presence of TK contacts. By doing so, the controller assumes that the motor temperature is within the normal range, allowing it to operate without triggering the TK monitoring function. Simulating normal motor temperature by bridging the TK terminals is only applicable when the motor lacks actual TK contacts. This feature allows the controller to be compatible with a wider range of motors, regardless of whether they have built-in thermal contacts or not.

Unregulated output
As standard, the controller features an additional, unregulated output of 230 VAC, single phase. This output becomes active when the motor is enabled, meaning when the fan is running. This extra output can be utilized to control various external devices or components such as a run indicator or a damper.
For example, you can connect a run indicator to this output to indicate the operational status of the fan. When the fan is activated, the run indicator will be powered and show that the fan is running. Conversely, when the fan is deactivated, the run indicator will be unpowered, indicating that the fan is not in operation. Similarly, this output can be used to control a damper. When the fan is active, the output can be connected to the damper to open it, allowing airflow. On the other hand, when the fan is inactive, the output can be used to close the damper, restricting airflow.

Solid enclosure
The enclosure of the STRS4-12L40 controller is produced in our factory and is designed to ensure sufficient cooling, but should be installed in a cool place, preferably away from direct sunlight. The enclosure of the controller is made from high-quality r-ABS VO (UL94) plastic. This material is known for its flame-extinguishing properties, toughness, and resistance to impacts. The use of r-ABS VO plastic for the enclosure provides a reliable level of protection for the internal components of the controller. It offers good resistance against impacts, which helps safeguard the controller from potential damage due to accidental bumps or knocks.
Moreover, the enclosure is designed to provide an IP54 protection rating. This rating indicates that the controller is protected against ingress of dust and has a level of protection against water splashes from any direction. While it is not fully waterproof, the IP54 rating ensures that the controller is suitable for indoor installations where it may encounter occasional dust or water splashes.
